Product Window
Product Creation and Editing Window
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE WINDOW
The product creation and editing window is the main interface for registering and managing the information of each item in the inventory. To organize the information logically, the window is divided into five tabs: General, Costs, Others, Labels and Image.
When the configuration is complete, the product is saved using the button "Create product" located at the bottom of the window.
GENERAL TAB

This tab contains the basic identifying information of the product.
- Product name: Commercial or descriptive name.
- Code: Alphanumeric identifier of the product.
- ⚠️ GOLDEN RULE: The code must be unique. Once the product is saved for the first time, the code is locked and cannot be modified under no circumstances.
- Brand: Manufacturer or commercial brand of the product.
- Group and Subgroup: Hierarchical classification to organize the inventory.
- Description: Brief text with additional details of the product.
COSTS TAB

In this tab the economic values of the product are defined.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT VAT: All monetary values in the Kardex Tauro program handle the VAT included.
- Value of the last purchase: Records the most recent acquisition cost (with VAT included).
- VAT percentage: Defines the VAT rate applied to the product.
- Sales Methods: It allows selecting how the sale price will be calculated or limited. There are two options:
- Minimum and Suggested: Allows setting two values: the Suggested Price (which will be loaded by default when making a sale) and the Minimum Price. The salesperson will be able to negotiate and lower the price, but the system will block any attempt to sell below the minimum value.
- Percentage Profit: It only requires entering a percentage. The system will automatically calculate the sale value by applying this profit to the purchase value of the product.
OTHER TAB

This tab groups physical and inventory characteristics and special configurations of the product.
Physical and Stock Data
- Measurements and Weight: Physical dimensions of the product.
- Unit of measure: (E.g. Units, Kilos, Liters, Meters).
- Minimum stock: Minimum quantity of stock on hand before the system alerts for a restocking need.
Product Type
Using a selector, the behavior of the product in the system is defined. There are four types:
- Normal Product: Standard item that is bought and sold as is (eg. a soda). It is not manufactured in the company.
- Service-Type Product: Product that does not generate an inventory increase. Its stock on hand always remains at zero and it can be sold without the need to have physical stock.
- Kit / Combo Product: It groups other products (eg. a Christmas gift basket).
- Nesting: It allows a kit to contain other kits inside it, up to a maximum of 3 nesting levels.
- Behavior: When selling the kit, the system automatically deducts the units of each component.
- Production Line Product: Product that is manufactured or assembled internally in the company from raw materials.
Note: Products of type "Kit/Combo" and "Production Line" require additional configuration of their components in the external window called Kits.
Serial Number Management (Serial Numbers / Batches)
Using a checkbox, serial number control can be activated for the product.
- Serial Name: If the option is activated, the serial name must be entered (minimum 3 letters). If left blank, the function is considered deactivated.
- Serial Type:
- Unique: For non-repeatable identifiers (eg. IMEI number of cell phones, appliance serial numbers).
- Repeatable: For identifiers shared across several items (eg. batch number of medications).
- Sales Behavior: If the product uses serial numbers, at the time of selling it is not enough to type the quantity; the system will require selecting the specific serial numbers being delivered through an exclusive selector.
LABELS TAB

It allows generating and downloading labels for the physical and digital identification of the product.
- Barcode (Code 128): It is automatically generated from the product's name and code.
- Recommendation: Print on a laser printer and do not modify the original label size to guarantee its readability by scanners.
- QR Code: Label that points to a URL or web address.
- Usage: Ideal for linking to the company's website, Facebook profile, or product details page. An excellent tool to promote the product on social networks and WhatsApp.
IMAGE TAB

It allows uploading and assigning a representative image to the product.
- Online Store: This image is used to show the product in the online store interface (where customers check stock on hand and prices).
- Requirement: This functionality is only useful and visible if the program's database is hosted on a web server. If the database operates in local mode, adding the image is optional and will have no impact on the operation.
SAVING, EDITING AND RESTRICTIONS
- Creation: The record is finalized by pressing the button "Create product" at the bottom.
- Editing: Once created, the product can be modified as many times as necessary (change name, prices, stock, image, etc.).
- Code Restriction: As mentioned in the General Tab, the product code is immutable after the first save. All other fields are editable.
MASS PRODUCT IMPORT
Although this window allows creating and editing products individually (one by one), Kardex Tauro has a tool to load multiple products simultaneously.
- Function: Import complete or partial inventory from a spreadsheet (Excel, CSV, etc.).
- Location: To access this tool and learn its format requirements, go to the main menu and consult the window Configuration -> Data.
